Hailing from Auckland, the Shadowstar has been one of our country’s front-runners in the underground scene within these last few years. Since 2014, Raka has released nothing but quality. His first project, Loyalty, that was soon followed by Royalty are proof of that as it garnered recognition from the NZ underground community.

Raka kicked off the following year with the 3-track E.P, Yung Alcoholic, where soon after he began to work with Tommy II and LMC - producers he would be frequently collaborating with in the future. In 2016, Raka worked alongside BABE and Tommy II releasing music that captured the attention of not only the NZ underground but also reached an international level.

To say Raka dominated last year is an understatement. After opening for J $tash, he went on to link up with Astari for his music video clip, Tokyo Glo, which racked up over 100,000 views in 6 months. Not long after, the Supernova EP (produced by LMC) arrived and well if you didn’t know about that… you need to get out of your slumber.

Alongside LMC, Raka has been implementing the new wave of “grunge rap” into the NZ scene and we absolutely love it. He’s been likened to Kurt Cobain by many and it’s easy to see why. The high intensity vocals coupled with hard yet subdued instrumentals make for an experience you won’t forget anytime soon. The Shadowstar is about to glo and you can catch a glimpse of it on the Auckland/Wellington tour so be there or you’ll be kicking yourself for months.
